SOCIAL SKILLS GROUPS
While social skills are addressed every day in our children’s programs, we also focus on children who are close to transitioning back to a traditional learning environment and would benefit from more intensive and guided social interaction.
SOCIAL SKILLS GROUPS
Like many children on the spectrum, your child may have difficulty using social skills to connect appropriately with others. They may seem to be in their own world, struggling with joint attention, playing and sharing, understanding feelings, facial expressions, social cues, and making and keeping friends. Developing social skills is crucial for your child’s success.
Social Skills Groups are designed to teach children how to interact appropriately with their peers. In these groups, children receive guidance, practice opportunities, and a supportive environment to work on targeted skills such as:
-
- Perspective-taking
- Conversation skills
- Friendship skills
- Problem-solving
- Emotion recognition
- Initiating and responding to greetings
- Giving and accepting compliments
- Turn-taking
- Sharing
- Asking for or offering help
