Winter Activities for Children with Autism in Indiana

With long winter days comes new, creative ways to have outings with the family while staying warm.

We have put together a list of places offering winter-themed outdoor and indoor activities near each of our locations. In addition, we have included some activities you can do from the comfort of your home.

Valentine’s Family Craft Day

Location: Garfield Park Conservatory and Gardens,

Winter Weekends at Conner Prairie

Location: Conner Prairie

Cost: General admission tickets available on their website. Kids under 2 are free.

$5 Nights at Indianapolis Children’s Museum

Description: Spend the day at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum! Every 1st Thursday of the month is a $5 night.

Wolf Park Howl Nights

Location: 4004 E. 800 N.

Dates: Saturdays
Times: 7-8 p.m.
Cost: Adult – $12
Child Ages 6-13 – $10
Young Child Ages 5 and Under – Free
Description: Visit Wolf Park in the evening and see our animals in a whole new light. As the night falls and the air cools, the wolves grow lively. Guests will learn how wolves communicate, both through their “trademark” behavior – the howl, and through body language. Wolf Park staff members will join the wolves midway through the program to demonstrate how our animal curators communicate with our wolves through positive reinforcement training and reading body language. Guests will be encouraged to howl along as the wolves serenade the park.
First 30 Minutes: Walking Path Open (Optional)

Valentine’s Day Skate

Veal’s Ice Tree

Dates: Formed every January until it begins to melt in April
Times: Hours are from dawk to dusk, seven days a week, lights around the tree turn off around 10 p.m.

Description: What started as a backyard accident in 1961 has become an annual tradition for the Veal Family. The Veal Ice Tree is a massive icy sculpture created with nearby pond water. The remarkable beauty and grandeur of the Ice Tree is impossible to describe – you must experience it in person!

 

Kid’s Planet Indoor Playground

Description: Kid’s Planet offers young families in Brownsburg, Indiana and the surrounding areas a quality family recreation center. There are jungle gyms, soft contained areas, multi-level playground, birthday party hosting and lots of fun arcade games.

Visit the Hancock County Public Library

Description: You can easily spend a couple of hours in the children’s department of this library, especially when you plan your trip to coincide with one of the several storytime events the library offers throughout the week. The children’s department has two play houses, lego stations, nature area, dinosaur toys, blocks, puzzles and more!
